The Look Up server maintains a table of all computers and systems on the network to ensure content and features are delivered in a timely manner. It informs users on editing systems and the Interplay engine, where constant can be found for use or indeed it is available to use. This is also where the system is configured and managed from. The Media Indexers role is to track content on nominated Workspaces on the central storage system. The Interplay Engine houses a database that manages and tracks all content that exists on the system. MediaCentral works hand in hand with Avid Interplay, it also works with Avids MAM but lets not get bogged down in that right now so for those who are unfamiliar with Interplay here's a quick overview to help you understand where MediaCentral sits within the Interplay design.Īvid Interplay is Avid's Asset Management system and can be purchased as either Production Asset Manager (PAM) or as a wider Media Asset Manager (MAM) The most common Interplay is the PAM system and it is deployed as a number of servers (Physical or Virtual.)Įvery Interplay on the face of the planet is made up of an ISIS or NEXIS shared storage system at its heart, which is where all the video content is stored. Assist was a great tool but it still needed installation and set up on qualified workstation and GFX card owing to the playback engine being used from Media Composer, therefore it made it quite expensive to deploy on larger sites. Where there is a requirement for sharing with externals, or make the content publicly available to anyone, then Mediacentral is suggested as the preferred system. The video content has been archived, however, if you had not downloaded your content in the decommission phase, you can request a copy and then upload this to Lecturecast.
Please note that test files are not archived and will be deleted in the monthly housekeeping processes We also urge all users who are trialing Mediacentral and create test files to delete these once their test has been completed. Any content can be restored if required for reuse.
#Prepare mediacentral for file playback archive#
In order to do this we will need to archive some legacy content that is no longer being viewed, we will be contacting users whose media falls outside of our retention policy in the coming weeks and be moving media to safe storage. Mediacentral content not used in the past 24 months will initially be stored offline, we will then sift and move student created content to an offline repository for 6 years - assumption being staff will already have their personal files saved elsewhere.

Do not be alarmed will keep a copy as per UCL's wider data retention policy and it is not our intention to delete your media. Please note Mediacentral is not used as a repository or as a storage facility, it is for the delivery of media content through UCL's VLE, Drupal and external sites.Īny content you may have uploaded to Mediacentral which has not been viewed or used since November 2020 will be archived separately to the system, this is in line with our policy for all content.
